Nanny/Caregiver: Job Requirement for a Work Permit in Canada

Caregivers are individuals who are qualified to care independently for children, old age people, pregnant ladies, and people who have disabilities.

There is a shortage of Canadian people who are available to work as live-in caregivers. To keep up with such a demand, a life in a caregiver qualification program was developed to bring qualified foreign people who want to work as a nanny caregiver as a Nanny work permit in Canada.

Through the program, you will become a member of a Canadian family for at least one year and will be paid a salary as a caregiver. The host family, which is your employer, will pay you no less than the minimum wages set by the Canadian government in which province you are working.

From the salary above, your employer will deduct a specific amount to pay various contributions. Parts of the contributions are paid by you, part of them by your employer, & there are contributions paid both by you and the employer. Various deductions are the following:-

  1. You must have completed school education that is equivalent to 13years of your academic education.
  2. You must be able to read, speak, & understand English or French. For this, you have to give IELTS test in the General category.
  3. You must have completed six months of full-time training in a nanny course, which is mandatory for the apply caregiver in Canada.
  4. You must have a clean criminal record.
  5. GNM and BSC NURSING is prioritized in Caregiver qualification in Canada.

A person should have experience of a minimum one year in field category wise means in which category he /she applied for a nanny like for children’s, old age people, pregnant ladies and people who have disabilities.

Work Permit for a Nanny in Canada

 A work permit from a Canadian visa office will allow you to work in Canada as a live-in caregiver. Nanny work permit in Canada is usually valid for one year. Make sure to renew your work permit before it expires. It is essential if you apply as a caregiver in Canada, you need a letter as well as a contract signed from your employer starting that your job as a live-in caregiver is being offered for another year. Include this letter and your sighed contract in your application to renew your work permit. 

However, this does not mean you cannot change your employer for personal and other reasons. If that is the case, you must apply for and have received a new work permit before you go to work for the new employer. Both you and your employer should know that you are free to change employers while in Canada.
